What a service covers
- Visual inspection of the charger, mounting, glands and cable route
- Type 2 plug and socket check for wear, scorching or water
- RCD trip-time testing and PEN-fault or earth-fault protection test
- Insulation resistance and earth loop tests on the circuit
- Terminal tightness check at the charger and consumer unit
- Firmware update and Wi-Fi or 4G connection check
- App and tariff settings review, so you're actually charging off-peak
- A written report with test results
Who needs it most
Business and landlord sites should have chargers inspected regularly under their electrical maintenance duties. Some manufacturers' warranties also ask for periodic checks. Homeowners benefit from a check every year or two, especially if the charger is exposed to weather or gets heavy daily use.
Combine it with an EICR
If your home or rental needs an Electrical Installation Condition Report, the charger check can be done on the same visit, which saves a second callout.
Common questions
How often should an EV charger be serviced?
Once a year for business and multi-user sites. Every one to two years for most homes, or sooner if you notice tripping or damage.
Will servicing affect my warranty?
It supports it. Some manufacturers expect periodic checks, and a test report is useful evidence for any warranty claim.
